MATT ELLIS EPK
ARTIST BIO
Matt Ellis is an award-winning singer/songwriter from Sydney, Australia. Based in the US since 2005, he’s planning on coming back to Oz for a run of acoustic shows this year.
Matt’s been active on the Americana/Rock scene since 2000, when he launched his critically acclaimed debut, “PEEL”. His career has produced 6 full length albums with multiple singles and music videos along the way. A regular at The Hopetoun, Annandale, The Vanguard and Gaelic Club during his Sydney days, he relocated to Los Angeles in 2005 after two successful solo tours of the US and Canada.
Ellis has thrived in the US, becoming a regular at Hotel Cafe, The Troubadour, Silverlake Lounge and The Echo. He’s played the Santa Monica Pier with Kasey Chambers, Pappy & Harriets with The Dandy Warhols, and The Texas Crawfish Boil with Alejandro Escovedo. Multiple tours throughout the South West, including a string of SxSW performances, have promoted celebrated albums featuring members from Wilco, Calexico and world class session players. Each album has widened Ellis’ reach with airplay across the US, Europe and Australia. After 15 years living in Venice, CA, Ellis re-located to the Mojave Desert near Joshua Tree in 2019 where he continues to play and record, and raise a family.
Releases from 2021 and 2023 point to a more experimental sound and a new chapter for Ellis. He’s currently working on Album #7 with Nicolas Vernhes (War On Drugs, Spoon, Silver Jews) and plans to release more new material this year.
But first, a break from the studio, and a little time back home to hopefully reconnect, perform and reflect on a DIY music career that’s worth celebrating.
